Fontanelle’s Helpmann Studio recipient Mady Stentiford presents a series of work that looks at the symbolism of the Australian road trip. Focusing on the journey as well as the destination, whether it be on the way to a festival or event, visiting friends interstate or having no plan or destination whatsoever.

‘I aim to glorify the ridiculous situations that occur, such as being tainted for life by Songs of the Irish and The Best of Queen albums, due to the fact that they were the only two cassettes you had in the car.

Getting flashbacks of the free lunch you attained while flat broke whenever you are lingering around the self serve nuts section in a supermarket.

Or how you can still semi-taste the catchment water you drank while sleeping on the beach after that night at the pub.

By using second hand materials such as Nature and Science encyclopedia’s/ books on outback Australia/ souvenir hats/ outdoor & camping equipment/ wigs etc.., I want to portray a visual recollection and construction of these bizarre scenarios one remembers.’
