Min Wong is an Adelaide based artist who investigates reconstructed counterculture accoutrements from the 1960’s and 1970’s as a simulacrum for utopian concerns and the paranormal. Working mainly in sculpture, her installations aim to identify new systems of interrelation with the present and appropriation of faux spirituality within the critique of contemporary life.

The work presented for Namaste Bitches attempts to reinstate the potency of objects of ‘commodified self-awareness’, and takes an ironic view of the contemporary dilemma of spirituality. Using the studio as a faux Bikram yoga room, the sculptures consider the ‘kitsch mystical experience’ and become an interplay between visionary imagination and cultural invention.

Min was a recipient of the 2012 Qantas Foundation Contemporary Encouragement Art Award and participated in residencies in Spain, China and Los Angeles. Min completed her Honours in 2016 at the University of SA and has exhibited recently at Mars Gallery, Melbourne, NCCA, Darwin, SASA and Fontanelle Gallery, Adelaide.
