03 Mar The House of Vulture: Ben Leslie
26/2/16 – 3/4/16
Opening drinks Sunday 28th of February at 6pm
Fontanelle kicks off the year on Festival opening / Biennial weekend, with South Australian based artist and Fontanelle co-founder Ben Leslie presenting his solo exhibition The House of Vulture. This is the final iteration of his two year Masters project Endless Golem, a framework that examines the material life of the artist’s studio, whilst playfully engaging with the heroic statements and clichéd masculo-centric models of the modernist tradition. The Endless Golem series has featured across several shows including a solo at West Space (Mel), the AEAF (with Louise Haselton) and CACSA Contemporary. This final incarnation draws upon this period of intensive studio research, featuring a series sculptural devices that embody the more slapstick moments of day-to-day life in the studio, wherein tools backfire, form follows dysfunction and discovery rides on the back of disaster.
The show will open Friday 26 at 1pm for interstate Biennial visitors who can’t stay on for the opening night, but we also look forward to helping everyone cap off what should be a great few days of Adelaide art buzz at our opening drinks celebration on Sunday 28 at 6pm!
